Sidney K. Meier is a Canadian-Swiss computer game designer responsible for the creation of the games "Civilization", "Pirates!" and "Railroad Tycoon". He co-founded MicroProse, a video game publisher known for developing vehicle simulation and strategy games. Prior to his success in computer game development, he had worked in developing cash register systems for department stores. That time, Meier bought an Atari 800 computer, which made him realized that computer programming could be a way of making video games. He managed to develop a few games similar to arcade ones. Meier succeeded in his work, together with his co-worker Bill Stealey they launched MicroProse company for computer game development. Later on he co-founded the famous game studio, "Firaxis Games".
