Whoever loves much, performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most well known and influential Post-Impressionist painters in history, who has created over 2,100 artworks, including oil paintings, still lifes, landscapes and portraits, mostly painted in the last two years of his life. Born in 1853 in Netherlands to an upper-middle-class family, he worked as an art dealer before living in London and eventually Paris, and often suffered from depression and ill-health. His work was commercially unsuccessful during his lifetime, and he eventually committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest at the age of 37. Posthumously his work attained widespread commercial success over the ensuing decades and today Van Gogh’s work is considered as one of the most expensive paintings to ever get sold. His legacy is honored by a museum in his name in Amsterdam which houses the world’s largest collection of his art.
