W. Clement Stone was an American businessman, self-help book author and philanthropist. He started hawking newspapers from the young age of 6, and through his charm, persistence and hard work gradually advanced from selling newspapers at restaurants, to selling insurance policies to finally starting his own company called the Combined Insurance Company of America. By 1979 the Company had more than $1 billion in assets. Stone used his own struggles and life experiences to author a number of self-help books on attaining success through a positive attitude.
