What's interesting to me is that in terms of people who I feel are getting what my game is about - and here I'm not even talking about what the elements of the story mean, like, whatever symbolism and metaphors and things are in there. But even the structure of the game, like, there's a fundamental structure and reasons in the way things are laid out, and parts of the game that are meant to draw people's attention to certain things, regardless of what's contained in that structure. And what's interesting to me is that some people get that, and some people don't. - Jonathan Blow
You could make a very focused exploration game, that was about player creativity and exploration. But then it wouldn't have these very meticulous scientific kinds of puzzles in it, that Braid has. And so, it was just about picking something and understanding what it was that was chosen, and sticking to it, ruthlessly. - Jonathan Blow
You might play a game that has a good story. But compare the quality of that story to a novel, and the novel just beats the shit out of the game in every dimension. - Jonathan Blow
Even in Japan, I don't think that the game culture is established. For example, my father will watch movies but games don't appear in his life at all, I think that that's sad. - Nobuo Uematsu
Games are considered to be in the sub-culture category, coming under movies, coming under manga or comics or animation, especially in Japan. - Nobuo Uematsu
However in countries outside of Japan I think game music is still a potential growth market that has not yet developed to the extent that we are seeing in Japan. - Nobuo Uematsu
I find it very interesting that that in Final Symphony entertainment music is shifting more towards contemporary music. - Nobuo Uematsu
I just initiated the project where I write music for somebody else to write the lyrics and also for the orchestra to perform. I've just initiated the project. That leads the project into creating an independent label outside of game music. - Nobuo Uematsu
It was very difficult to startle or surprise someone with a particular sound during the family computer era. - Nobuo Uematsu
Last year in Germany at a town hall in Leipzig there was a game music concert played by the orchestra and some of the Final Fantasy scores were played. This year there is another concert scheduled in the same location, for game music. - Nobuo Uematsu
We hope that eventually there would be an occasion which I can personally prove that game music can in fact impress many different people and move them. - Nobuo Uematsu
Gaming goes in trends, and for a bit of a too-long stretch, it focused on huge productions. - Markus Persson
Having built-in video recording capabilities for a game that focuses on user-generated content might be a very good thing. - Markus Persson
I definitely think 'Minecraft' is a freak thing. There's no way you could replicate it intentionally. - Markus Persson
I have the ability to get code done, but I'm impatient, and it's scrappy as a result. Maybe that helped me with 'Minecraft,' as it came quickly. But, well, at some point, I'd like to actually become a good programmer. - Markus Persson
I really wanted to make a dungeon crawler, but this game came out, 'Legend of Grimrock 2,' which was, like, the perfect dungeon crawler. It basically destroyed the genre for me, and no way could I make a game that good in that genre. - Markus Persson
I think the more realistic you try to make the graphics and the experience, the more you limit yourself to a single vision. - Markus Persson
I used to be really stressed about that: like, how do I follow up on 'Minecraft,' because I have this weird expectation to. But after a while, what I realized I enjoy doing is prototyping and playing with ideas. - Markus Persson
I wouldn't want to do anything like 'Minecraft' again, where it's, like, an on-going thing, and there are customers I have to keep happy. - Markus Persson
I'm not much of a builder in 'Minecraft,' so I don't really understand how much work goes into these big projects. Seeing the flyby videos blows me away, and I have no idea how people do it. - Markus Persson
I'm worried about the future of computer operating systems, as they all seem to be sliding towards a more controlled experience, taking away much of what makes PC games so much fun. - Markus Persson
